Police said they decided to arrest Komal following interrogation of Imran Mehmud, Ramu Bharwad and Mehul Bharawad, who were apprehended earlier in connection with the case. A woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of VHP leader Pravin Togadia’s cousin and two others in the city, police said Monday. This was the fourth arrest in the case.
Police arrested Komal Goyani, sister of main accused Gautam Goyani, from Sarthana area Sunday night, even as her brother and father Ganesh Goyani remained elusive.
Bakul Hirani (45), 40-year-old Bharat Togadia (brother of Congress councillor Pappan Togadia and cousin of Pravin Togadia), and Mahesh Radadiya (35), son of a former Congress councillor, were stabbed to death by six youths with sharp weapons at Hirani’s office on Ashwani Kumar Road in Varachha area of the city Saturday night. The condition of one Ashok Patel (32), who was also stabbed, is stated to be critical.
According to police, Hirani and Gautam had monetary dispute following a land deal. Komal had unsuccessfully contested the last Kamrej Taluka panchayat election from Navagam seat. Komal, who had worked with the mamlatdar office, earlier played an important role in sorting out a land dispute between Hirani and others at his native in Bagasara village in Amreli district, police said. They said Hirani had promised to pay part of the land deal to Komal and Gautam, but later he refused to pay money to them. “We have arrested four accused, including Komal Goyani. The motive behind the murder appears to be some pending monetary dispute. We are trying to dig out more information from the four… We have made three different teams and they have been sent to different places in Saurashtra and Mumbai,” said Inspector C K Patel. Meanwhile, MoS for Home Rajnikant Patel visited the house of Bharat Togadia and met his brother Pappan Togadiya. Congress councillor Dinesh Kachhadiya was also present. Bharat, Radadiya, Patel were stabbed while trying to save Hirani. “We have requested the Home Minister to arrest the absconding accused at the earliest. He assured us that he will talk to Surat Police Commissioner Ashish Bhatia on this issue,” said Pappan. Later, addressing a press conference, the minister said, “The triple murder is a sorrow incident, but the motive was a personal dispute.”
