Police say a man accused of abducting a 4-year-old girl in Virginia may be headed to New Jersey.

Virginia State Police and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office activated a Virginia Amber Alert for a 4-year-old girl Monday. Police say the girl was last seen with a 24-year-old man at 400 Thomas Jefferson Highway in Charlotte Court House, Virginia.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the girl was abducted on Nov. 9 or 10, but didn’t meet the criteria for an Amber Alert until Monday.

They said the man may be headed to New Jersey though they did not say where in the state specifically. Police believed the girl was in extreme danger.
