A seven-year-old girl belonging to nearby Majri Jattan village was found murdered in a sugarcane fields on the outskirts of the village here today.The deceased, identified as Suman, was missing since Saturday.Harmel Singh, the girl’s father, had told the police that his daughter was not well and her grandfather Dev Singh took her to doctor. When she did not reach home till evening they contacted his grandfather, who stays in a separate house. Dev Singh told them that Suman had left for home immediately after visiting the doctor.The police started searching the adjoining area of the village and the maggot-infested body of the child was found in the fields this morning.A three-member medical board conducted the postmortem at the local Civil Hospital. The doctors said there were injury marks on the left arm and neck of the child.The body was in such a bad condition that prima facie it was not possible to conclude that there was any rape attempt, said the doctors.Ropar SSP Varinder Paul Singh said the police was working on various theories and the accused would be nabbed soon.
