Dubbing the Congress’ Kisan Rath Yatra as yet another poll-centric stunt, Akali leader Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal today alleged that PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh was exploiting the widows of farm suicide victims to garner political support.Grewal told Amarinder to list the initiatives he had taken to curb farm suicides during his tenure as CM. “Amarinder’s own record on this score had been dismal and nothing better is expected from the Congress,” he added.“The victims’ widows must ask what Amarinder had done for them before taking his assurance at face value,” he said.Grewal blamed the policies of successive Congress governments at the Centre for the plight of Punjab’s farmers. The SAD also accused the Congress of befooling farmers with the loan waiver scheme. In a statement, SAD secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said Amarinder must apologise to the farmers for the denial of benefit of the Rs 70,000-crore loan waiver scheme announced by the UPA government in 2008.
