A MAN is fighting for his life after a serious car crash in Melbourne’s east early this morning. A grey Audi 4WD smashed into a brick fence on Burke Rd, Glen Iris, about 2.50am Saturday.

The male driver, who was alone in the car, suffered life threatening head, chest and leg injuries, and had to be cut from the car by MFB crews.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman Paul Bentley said the man was trapped in the car for an hour before crews could rescue him.

“He was taken to the Alfred in a critical condition,” he said.

Police have not yet determined the circumstances leading up to the crash and driver is yet to be identified.
