Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the death of a woman in Kew. Alex Freeburn, 26, is in police custody after being arrested on Saturday afternoon.  The body of his housemate, a 29-year-old woman, was found in a High Street townhouse shortly after 1.40pm on Tuesday.

A manhunt for Freeburn intensified after police said he was sighted in the south-west coast town of Warrnambool between 3pm and 4pm on Friday afternoon.

e was spotted in the town’s CBD and was wearing grey tracksuit pants, a fawn-coloured beanie and he was carrying a black satchel.

A police spokeswoman could not say if the woman’s death was being treated as suspicious, but the homicide squad  is investigating.
