It was a lucky escape for a man who fell onto railway tracks moments before a train arrived in Melbourne’s north on Monday. Police say the 28-year-old man took a tumble off the platform at Craigieburn Station about midday.

They suspect he suffered some sort of medical condition or attack, causing him to lose his balance.

It is unclear whether the man was forced to roll out of the train’s way or whether he fell out of its path but he somehow managed to avoid being hit by the train as it pulled into the station. He was, however, left trapped between the train and the platform before paramedics freed him.

There was confusion after the incident, with police at first saying the train had driven over the man.

Similarly, an Ambulance Victoria spokesman earlier said paramedics arrived to find the man under the train.

Both the police and Ambulance Victoria now say the man was found between the platform and the train.

The man was taken to the Northern Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
