A man from northern Victoria has been charged with 193 offences related to online grooming and the sexual assault of 23 girls, Victoria Police say. The Echuca man, 27, who is already in custody on an unrelated matter, was served the charges at the Melbourne Magistrates Court.
Those charges include four counts of rape, 68 counts of compelling sexual penetration, 18 counts of grooming and 14 counts of using a carriage service for sexual activity with a child under 16.
The girls are from all over Australia, including five from Victoria.
The alleged offences occurred between September 2011 and August 2015 and involved girls aged between 12 and 16 years of age.
