A man was pronounced dead in hospital after he was assaulted in a fight early Saturday near College and Bathurst Streets, Toronto police say.

Const. Craig Brister, spokesperson for the Toronto police, said police received a call about the dispute at about 2:25 a.m.

“It appears at this point to have been a fight,” Brister said.

Brister said the fight appears to have occurred on the street near the intersection.

The man was taken to a trauma centre in life-threatening condition and was pronounced dead a short time later, he said.

Brister said the Homicide Squad has taken over the investigation and detectives are trying to obtain security camera video of the incident.

No suspect information is available.

Evert Steenge, deputy commander of Toronto Paramedic Services, said the man appeared in his 20s.

“There was no indication of a gunshot. He was assaulted,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to call Toronto Police Service’s 14 Division or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
