A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Melbourne’s east on Wednesday afternoon. The 66-year-old Nunawading man was pushing a boy in a stroller across Springfield Road, at the corner of Springvale Road about 4.50pm when he was struck by a turning car.
The man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he later died.
The boy, whose age has not been confirmed, was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition with minor injuries.
The female driver from Doncaster East stopped to help the injured pair, the police spokeswoman said. She and another person were assessed for injuries at the scene, but needed no treatment.
Police have released the driver pending further inquiries.
The accident brings the Victorian road toll to 265, up 34 from this time last year.
