A man has been charged with the murder of an elderly woman and the attempted murder of two other people all stabbed in Townsville earlier this week.

Elizabeth Kippin, 81, was found stabbed to death in her home at Wulguru on Wednesday.

An 32-year-old Wulguru man has been charged with her murder, as well as two counts of attempted murder following attacks on a 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman.

He has also been charged with seven counts of wilful damage, two counts of seriously assaulting police and three counts of seriously obstructing police.

He was under police guard in Townsville Hospital but was taken into custody and charged this afternoon.

He will appear in Townsville Magistrates Court on Saturday.

‘The whole community is struggling’

The death of Ms Kippen has devastated the community, her nephew David said.

“The whole community is struggling with it,” he said.
