A Berwick man who allegedly rammed a police car in Berwick on Thursday night refused to be brought to the Melbourne Magistrates court on Saturday.

Jason Phelps will now face the Dandenong Magistrates Court on September 20.

Magistrate Ross Betts said no bail application had been submitted and remanded Phelps to custody.

Phelps, 33, was arrested by Fugitive Taskforce and Southern Metropolitan Region Crime Team detectives in a car park on Stud Road in Rowville about 5.50pm on Friday.

He has been charged with 26 offences including reckless conduct endangering life, robbery and assaulting police.

The charges follow a report to police of a stolen car in Elgin Street on Thursday about 4.30pm, and a subsequent incident where a police car was rammed and police fired a “number of rounds”.

Phelps’ charges date back to 2013, and include four theft of vehicles totaling $109, 050 from areas Moe, Malvern, Lysterfield and Berwick.

On another occasion he stole goods from Hallam worth $151.73, including  an energy drink, toothpaste and deodorant.
