A Stony Plain man is facing criminal charges after another man was kidnapped at gunpoint early Saturday in the community west of Edmonton.
The victim escaped in south Edmonton a short time later. Police have charged another Stony Plain man with kidnapping at gunpoint.
The victim and his alleged kidnapper are known to each other, police said.
In a news release Wednesday, Stony Plain/Spruce Grove/Enoch RCMP said they were informed by Edmonton police at 5:40 a.m. Saturday that a man had reported being kidnapped that morning in Stony Plain.
The man told police he was getting into his vehicle at 4:30 a.m. after leaving a friend’s apartment when he was kidnapped at gunpoint by four males.
He said his hands and mouth were duct-taped and he was put in the back seat of a gold Ford Escape.
The man was driven to a south Edmonton condominium complex where he escaped, RCMP said.
He was not injured.
RCMP have charged a 26-year-old Stony Plain man with kidnapping while using a firearm, forcible confinement, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He remains in custody and will appear in Stony Plain provincial court Oct. 19.
