Man bites on cops hand during arrest attempt

The off-duty police officer observed a 55-year-old man allegedly stealing items at a convenience store in the Goulds area of St. John’s around 5:30 p.m.

The officer knew there were arrest warrants for the suspect and attempted to arrest him.

The RNC says the suspect resisted and bit the officer’s hand before fleeing on foot.

RNC patrol officers along with its K-9 Unit responded and the suspect was apprehended a short distance away.

The man is charged with theft under $5,000, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and breach of court orders. He was taken into custody until a court appearance. The police officer was treated at hospital for minor injuries.
