After Bengal, Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has planned to take on Tripura Marxists by contesting the Assembly polls there in 2018. As a first step, Mamata will address a Trinamool Congress gathering in Agartala on August 9. Her party has already emerged as Opposition party in Tripura as six of the 10 Congress MLAs in the state have left the party to join TMC.
“Mamata Banerjee will address a gathering at Astabal grounds on August 9, the day `Bharat Charo’ movement launched by the Congress against British government. We now want to free Tripura from CPM misrule. She has ousted the Marxists in Bengal and now she is determined to fight against the Marxists in our state,” said Sudip Roy Burman, former Tripura Congress president and party MLA who joined Trinamool Congress recently.

Burman also said they will attend Mamata Banerjee’s rally in Kolkata on July 21and discuss her Tripura tour with top party leaders. Trinamool’s Tripura unit president Shankar Chakraborty is also coming to Kolkata to attend July 21 rally. Tripura Trinamool leaders will meet Mukul Roy after the rally here to chalk out strategies to mobilize a huge gathering at Mamata’s Agartala rally . A senior Trinamool leader from Tripura said that Mamata had told them that the party will not be able to provide any financial help for the rally in Agartala. “We are now collecting funds from the people and we are getting tremendous response,” said Samir Roy Burman, former Tripura chief minister who also joined Trinamool Congress recently.
