The M61 motorway near Bolton was closed northbound following a serious accident. Highways England say that a Toyota Auris has left the carriageway and hit a tree at the northbound entry slip road at junction 6.
Police, fire and ambulance all attended the incident, which happened at about 11.40am.
The male driver was rescued from the vehicle and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He is said to have suffered leg injuries and possible internal injuries.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said that his injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
The closure was between junction 6 at Horwich and junction 8 at Chorley. Traffic was directed off at junction 6, with a diversion in place to take vehicles around the crash site and to rejoin the M61 at junction 8.
