Food ministry has urged the finance ministry to sort out the issue of delay in sanction of cash-credit limit (CCL) for Punjab to ensure the ongoing wheat procurement is not hampered. It has also asked the state government to submit its bills quickly for expedited processing by Centre.
An official release from Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal’s office claimed that the he met PM Modi on Monday where he sought immediate release of CCL worth Rs 20,094 crore. “The PM assured Badal of positive action and said that he would get this issue resolved on priority,” the release said. Badal pointed out how the inordinate delay in CCL clearance could lead to “disaffection in farming community, which might lead to law and order complications”.
Meanwhile, Punjab, which is the biggest contributor to the central pool grain stocks, is facing a huge controversy after delay in sanction of CCL by banks because of allegedly missing grain stocks supposedly held by state government agencies.
