The Lahore High Court dismissed on Friday a petition seeking conversion of Governor House into an educational institution. Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh dismissed the petition as not maintainable after a deputy attorney general stated that the status of the Governor House could not be changed.

He said the building was also used for the president and the prime minister. He asked the court to dismiss the petition for being not maintainable.

Petitioner Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree said the office of the governor was symbolic in nature but a huge premises had been allocated for his residence. He said maintaining a huge residence for governor in a country where children did not get education was a shame.

The lawyer asked the court to order the federal government to convert the governor house into an educational institution.
