The Congress Welfare Committee is expected to meet this month to take a final call on Rahul Gandhi officially taking over as the chief of the party. Amid reports that Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will be elevated as the party chief, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh on Thursday said dynasty rule is sacrilege of democracy. Singh told ANI that though Rahul’s elevation is Congress’ internal matter, the whole concept of dynasty is anti-democracy. “Rahul Gandhi is not at all a difficult competition for Narendra Modi. Strictly speaking, we should not be talking much about it because it is an internal matter of the Congress Party. But having said that since all of us live in a democracy and the wider question which requires serious thought is does this auger well for a democracy to promote a dynasty,” said Singh.
