Immigration confirmed detainee missing in Western Australia

A spokesperson from the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has confirmed a detainee escaped from immigration detention whilst on a religious visit to the Buddhist temple in Western Australia. WA Police are assisting the Department of Immigration and Border protection in the search for the missing detainee in the city’s southeast.

The Department assures the Australian community that it takes incidents like this very seriously.

Efforts are continuing to locate the detainee.

The Department cannot comment on an individual’s personal circumstances, other than to say the detainee is not an Illegal Maritime Arrival (IMA). According to media reports, the person escaped from a mini-bus in Kenwick.
