Hyundai started their journey in India in 1998 when they first introduced the Santro in the country. Eighteen years later, the company has rolled off the 7th million car from its manufacturing plants in Chennai. In terms of market share, Hyundai is the second biggest carmaker in India, second only to Maruti Suzuki. In terms of exports however, Hyundai has been at the top for the last 10 years and the Korean carmaker exports cars to 92 countries from India.
The 7th million car to roll off the Hyundai plant’s assembly line is the compact SUV, Creta. The Creta was launched less than two years ago and has been able to carve out a sizeable share of the compact SUV segment for itself. Hyundai Motor India Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Company is only behind its Chinese counterpart in terms of number of vehicles produced and the Indian arm of the Korean carmaker intends to hit the 10 million mark by the first half of 2021.
