After the critical verdict, the audience verdict is out as well. Rakesyh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya starring debutants Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher budgeted at Rs 35 crore earned only Rs 2.2 crore on the day of its release (October 7). Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the latest figures on Saturday (October 8). #Mirzya has a SHOCKINGLY LOW start… Records DISMAL figures on Day 1… Fri ₹ 2.20 cr. India biz. Earlier Mr Adarsh had said that the morning and afternoon box office trends of Mirzya was pretty week and that the movie would need to pick up on Saturday and Sunday to reach a respectable total at the box office. The film based on the Punjabi folklore of Mirza Sahiban has been noted for its visual brilliance and rich music (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Gulzar). However, the film has been criticised for the performances by its lead actors and the film’s overall stale pace.
Mirzya is Harshvardhan Kapoor’s first Bollywood film. Born to Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, Harshvardhan has had a great start to his career on pen and paper – a novelty project by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra – but the box office figures of Mirzya will definitely need some improvement if Harshvardhan hopes to become a marquee name in the industry.
