A 39-year-old man is in custody after Montreal police say he robbed a grocery store and crashed the taxi he stole while fleeing the scene late Tuesday night. Police received a 911 call around 11 p.m. about an armed robbery at a grocery store on Ste-Catherine Street near Papineau Avenue.

The suspect left the store and forced a taxi driver to help him escape. The vehicle was found a few blocks away in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve after the suspect veered off the road into a park and hit several trees. The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Police are determining what charges the man will face.
