Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today laid the foundation stone of Bhai Jaita Ji Memorial.
The CM announced to rechristen Shri Dasmesh Academy of Martial Arts and Sports here as Bhai Jaita Ji Academy of Martial Arts and Sports. He said the academy would be named after the Sikh warrior who was a symbol of bravery and warfare.
The move to rename the academy drew flak from Sikh scholars. Harsimran Singh, Director, Bhai Gurdas Institute of Advance Sikh Studies, termed it politically motivated.
He said they would not accept the move to replace the name of Guru Gobind Singh with that of his army general. He said the SAD was compromising with the history of Sikhism for political gains. First they did not maintain this academy built in the name of Guru Gobind Singh and now they were ready to change its name for political interests, he added.
Meanwhile, addressing a gathering, the CM said the SAD-BJP government spent more than Rs1,000 crore for the construction of memorials. Badal called upon people to be prepared for struggle to save the state’s river waters.
