KAPVGMC gets MCI approval for MD psychiatry course

KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College (KAPVGMC) will introduce MD (psychiatry) with one seat from next academic year following approval from the Medical Council of India (MCI). On Wednesday, a one-man team from MCI carried out an inspection for the renewal of MD-general medicine course.

“Our college had applied for permission from MCI to start MD in psychiatry course. We have got the permission from the council which allowed us to start the course with one seat from the next academic year,” a senior official in the college told TOI, on condition of anonymity, on Wednesday.

The selection of an MBBS student for the course will be through either the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination (AIPGMEE) or state level entrance exam.

MD (general medicine) was started in the college in 2007 with four seats. As per the council norms, the course is subjected to MCI review at regular intervals.
The college administration exuded confidence that they will get the renewal for the course. “We have the manpower and facilities for the post-graduate courses. So, there will be no problem in holding back the recognition,” said a senior official.
The college is all set to face two more inspections for MS (general surgery) and MD (bio chemistry) on Thursday and Friday respectively.
