The Punjab Congress today complained to the Election Commission against the “misuse of public funds and government machinery” by the state government, even as the Public Relations Department clarified that the ruling Akali Dal had nothing to do with the booklet highlighting the government’s achievements.
Reacting to a report in The Tribune, the PR Department said the distribution of the booklet, titled ‘9 Years of Development in Punjab’, was a part of its basic duty to highlight the achievements of the state government.
It was a “state booklet”, not one of the ruling party, it added.
The Congress, however, termed it an open defiance of the EC directive by the Akali Dal, pointing to the written instructions to all political parties in Punjab to follow directions with regard to the use of public funds and government machinery.
