Fans who’ve been rooting for the R + L = J theory were thrilled when they watched the last episode of season 6 of Game of Thrones. For those who are just waking up to the drumming and chest beating of subscribers of this theory, here’s a gist of what happened. In the last episode, the makers of Game of Thrones revealed that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark’s bastard. He is the son of his sister Lyanna Stark, Ned’s sister. Although there was no clear indication as to who the father is, people assumed that Rhaegar Targaryen is the father. Now, HBO’s official Making of Game of Thrones website released an infographic confirming and directly linking Rheagar and Lyanna to Jon Snow. Ned Stark has been linked as his guardian. We were told the story behind Jon Snow’s lineage in the sixth season of Game of Thrones. Bran Stark goes back in time with the Three-Eyed Raven to when Robert Baratheon’s rebellion was just coming to a successful end. Lyanna was at the Tower of Joy, either having eloped with or kidnapped by Rheagar Targaryen. Ned fights Ser Arthur Dayne to get to Lyanna, only to find her all bloodied, lying on the bed after giving birth to Jon. She asks Ned to protect him from Robert who is on a mission to wipe out all the Targaryens. So there we have it. Jon Snow, who still knows nothing about all of this, is half-Stark and half-Targaryen. Now Ned’s last words to Jon Snow make more sense – “You are a Stark. You might not have my name, but you have my blood.”
