Jamnagar district police control room said the fire broke out at the RIL refinery complex in Moti Khavdi village around 3 am after an incident of gas leakage. While Jamnagar SP Paradip Shejul couldn’t be reached for comment, Meghpar police station, under whose jurisdiction the refinery complex falls, said they were waiting for further information.
Meanwhile, in a statement, RIL said the unit where the fire broke out was under maintenance shutdown and that the fire had been put out.
“There was an unfortunate flash fire in one of the units under a planned maintenance shutdown in our DTA (Domestic Tariff Area) refinery at Jamnagar. While the Reliance fire brigade extinguished the fire swiftly, this has resulted in injuries to some contract workers, who are being provided necessary medical treatment. All operations of the refinery continue to be normal,” read the RIL statement.
