The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) along with Islamabad Police conducted a raid at a guest house and detained a US national who had been expelled from Pakistan in 2011 on suspicion of spying. Director FIA Mazharul Haq Kakakhel led the raid after it was learned that Matthew Barrett had returned to Pakistan on Friday.

Two officials at the Islamabad Airport have also been suspended for allowing Matthew Barrett to enter the country when his name was on the black-list.

According to FIA sources, Matthew is married to a Pakistani national.
