Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Development, Fazilka, Arvind Kumar, conducted a surprise raid in border villages of Pakka Chisti and Jhuge Gulab to oversee the development works being carried out under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and found 42 workers absent.Kumar said when he inspected the muster roll, 95 workers were shown present in the register but only 71 were present at the construction site in Pakka Chisti village. Similarly, 107 workers were present against 125 shown in the register in Jhuge Gulab village. Taking serious note of the irregularities, ADC Arvind Kumar issued a show-cause notice to the field staff and the panchayats concerned.It was stated that some officials and panchayats are allegedly hand in glove in misappropriating the funds by showing more labourers on duty than the actual number.Kumar warned stern action against the officials concerned if the shortcomings continued in future. — OC
