The encounter at Pampore, Jammu Kashmir ended on Wednesday afternoon, the third day of the encounter, leaving two militants dead. Security forces killed one militant on Wednesday morning, police sources said, while one militant was reportedly killed on Tuesday evening. The encounter between security forces and militants at EDI building in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir, began Monday, when militants entered the complex. Security personnel used drones on Tuesday evening to track movement of militants inside the building. One jawan was injured on the first day of the attack and is said to be recovering.
The EDI building in Pampore was earlier attacked in February this year in which three security personnel, including two captains, were killed. Three militants were killed in that attack, which lasted for over 48 hours. There has been a surge in infiltration attempts, ceasefire violations and militant attacks in the valley since September 29 surgical strikes that were carried out by Indian forces along the LoC destroying several terrorist launch pads operating inside the PoK.
Meanwhile, in another attack on Tuesday, a grenade was hurled at BSF patrolling party in in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, injuring 10 people. Security has been put on high alert across the nation and especially at key areas such as airports, defence establishments and ports.
With the festival season underway, security has been beefed-up across busy markets and shopping areas as well, with the government not wanting to take any chances.
