Accountability court on Tuesday has postponed the hearing of case regarding Rs 17 billion embezzlement against Dr Asim Hussain and accomplices till July 4. According to details, hearing of the case took place in Karachi’s accountability court during which, Dr Asim and other suspects were presented before the court.
Lawyer Azhar Chaudhary told the court that documents given to the culprits don’t contain the statements of the seven witnesses which must be included in the record whether they are against or in favor.
He said that omitting the statements of federal minister natural resources, General manager OGDCL and others from the case shows dishonesty.
On the occasion, the accused Basharat Mirza submitted an application to include witnesses’ remarks in the data.
Meanwhile, Dr Asim’s lawyer Farooq H Naik said National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be questioned before the indictment about compilation of the statements.
Subsequently, the court ordered NAB to submit reply and adjourned the hearing till July 4.
It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Asim is facing two corruption references and one terror case.
One of the two corruption cases alleges the ex-minister of embezzlement during his tenure in authority at Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) while other of money laundering, granting illegal contracts to companies and selling government’s land.
He was also alleged of facilitating terrorists by providing them shelter in his hospital in Karachi. A terror case was lodged in North Nazimabad Police Station in November last year after 90-day remand of thealleged culprit had expired.
