To be positioned in the line-up below the Datsun GO hatchback and GO+ MPV in India, the redi-GO will cater to young a first time buyers in India. According to the folks at Datsun India, it’s an urban cross and considering its best-in-class ground clearance of 185mm, they say that it’ll give a bunch of SUVs a run for their money. The ground clearance of the car is set at 185mm and that can be seen in the stance itself.
Datsun will manufacture the car at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s facility in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, which currently manufactures the products of all three carmakers. The sole facility is currently catering to both domestic and international market. The car is expected to be a real game changer for Datsun India, who hasn’t been able to see any commendable success with the GO siblings. Judging by all the features that are expected to offered with the car and the aggressive price tag it will receive, we wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen.
Coming to the car itself, the redi-GO is truly an attractive hatchback thanks to the aggressive styling and crossover-like stance. While the car looks a lot like the concept version seen in the 2014 Auto Expo, the production version has been toned down in terms of styling and exterior features. The front end of the car features a nice sculpted bonnet flanked by a pair of stylish sweptback headlamps with integrated turn lights and Datsun’s signature hexagonal grille with chrome bordering. The front bumper adds the aggressive touch to the fascia with its funky design, chrome slat, and also muscular character lines that are further extended towards the side profile as well.
The new sporty alloy wheels are quite similarly sized compared to the ones seen in the concept version although the production version gets skinnier tyres. The sculpted side profile of the car looks quite futuristic and similar treatment can be seen in the rear section as well. It also gets a high-mounted rear windscreen, vertically-stacked tail-lamps, and nice sculpted hatch.
Under the hood, Datsun redi-GO will be powered by an 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine that currently does duty on the Renault Kwid as well. The engine in the Kwid churns out a maximum of 50bhp and develops a peak torque output of 100Nm. Initially transmission option will include only a 5 speed manual gearbox.
