At the time when most people in the country continue to face cash shortage after the demonetisation measure taken by the governmnet on November 8 to curb the black money menace in the country, a couple from Gujarat district of Surat got married in just Rs 500 as the cash crunch was affecting their wedding money.
Speaking about the wedding, the bride said that initially both her and grooms family were tensed after the sudden ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1, 000 currency notes as the wedding was already fixed. After much consideration, it was decided to go ahead with the marriage without much grandeur and guests were ordered just tea and water.
Last week, the governmnt had eased the withdrawal limit to Rs 2,50,000 one-time from banks for families having weddings in their families, provided they showed their wedding cards.
In a sudden move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the demonetisation move to curb black money in the country. In his speech the prime minister added that the step was necessary as terrorists wer also using the high-valued notes to flow in black money into the country. Asking for time till December 30 to fight the menace, the PM also advised countrymen not to get panic and also said they could deposit their high valued notes the date.
Since the start of the ongoing winter session of the Parliament, the Opposition upped the ante against the government suggesting that it did not implement the demonetisation step properly.
