Toronto police say 27 people have been arrested as part of a probe into an alleged drug trafficking ring in southern Ontario. Police say they have seized nearly 300 kilograms of “various controlled substances,” eight firearms and more than $2.3 million in cash.

Police say the ring was involved in the distribution, trafficking and export of drugs in Toronto, York Region and beyond, but did not indicate when the arrests and seizures took place.

Toronto police say they will discuss the investigation at a Thursday morning news conference.

The operation, called Project Beyond, included police from York Region and the Canada Border Services Agency.
