Toronto police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal shooting that occurred in the Eglinton Avenue East and Sloane Avenue area on Friday night. The man who was shot has died in hospital.

Const. David Hopkinson, spokesperson for the Toronto police, said police received a call about the sound of gunshots near the neighbourhood of Victoria Village at about 6 p.m.

Hopkinson said officers who arrived at the scene learned that a black SUV had pulled up alongside another SUV and someone in the first SUV opened fire on the other vehicle.

Shortly after that, a man suffering from gunshot wounds had been dropped off at a hospital. He was pronounced dead there.

Police then found a black SUV in the area of the shooting with nobody inside.

Hopkinson said police have yet to notify next of kin.

Toronto’s Homicide Squad has taken over the case and are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who may have seen anything is urged to call the Homicide Squad at (416) 808-7400.
