Police are searching for a suspect who fired shots at two teens, injuring one, in the same wooded area behind a northeast Massachusetts shopping center. Officers were dispatched to the scene of a shopping plaza on Newburyport Turnpike in Rowley after receiving reports of shots fired around 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

As police searched the area, an 18-year-old man emerged and said he had been shot in the leg. The victim was treated at a local hospital and released. Shortly after, another teen walked into the Rowley police station and told investigators that he had been shot at in the same area.

Chief Scott Dumas said police don’t believe that the incident was random. Investigators believe the shooter knew the teen that was wounded. An investigation is ongoing.
