A man found badly beaten in a Chilliwack home has now died of his injuries — and the Integrated Homicide Investigation team has released photos of two possible suspects who were seen fleeing the scene. John Robert Oliver Anderson, 40, has been identified as the victim.

He was found in a home in the 8900 block of Glenwood Street shortly before noon on Wednesday, according to Chilliwack RCMP Cpl. Mike Rail.

Anderson was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries, but died a short time later.

A number of individuals inside the residence were removed and the home was secured.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team — IHIT— has taken over the case, and quickly released photographs of two possible suspects who fled the home just before first responders arrived.

Spokeswoman S/Sgt. Jennifer Pound says IHIT is asking for the public’s assistance in locating David James “Yoda” McKay, 37, and Cydnie Markel-Rempel, 21.

“Mr. Anderson’s death is believed to be targeted” said Pound in a news release. “Efforts to locate the suspects are an ongoing priority”

“Police are currently canvassing a number of local areas, including transient encampments as there is no known fixed address for these individuals.”

IHIT is urging anyone who knows the whereabouts of McKay and Markel-Rempel to call 911 and not approach or attempt to detain them.

A criminal record check by has found both suspects have extensive criminal histories and outstanding charges for crimes ranging from breaking and entering to theft and possession of stolen property.

Chilliwack RCMP say the area surrounding the home will be cordoned off “for a significant amount of time”.

IHIT says an autopsy will be required to determine what kind of injuries Anderson sustained and the cause of his death.

Early reports said he was the victim of an assault.
