The Punjab Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today rejected the Justice Zora Singh Commission report, calling it an eyewash.State Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh said, “The Commission has defeated the purpose it was constituted for. It appears to have worked overtime to hide what actually was needed to be revealed.”Amarinder added, “Its mandate was not to fix the compensation for those killed or injured, but to arrive at an unambiguous conclusion as to who was responsible for the sacrilege and who was responsible for the killing of the protesters. Surprisingly, Justice Zora Singh (retd) has not even touched those topics,” he said, quoting newspaper reports.Speaking at a rally in Kapurthala, Congress MP Shamsher Singh Dullo said, “The SAD played politics by getting the inquiry into such a serious matter done by a retired judge. The inquiry should have been done by a sitting judge.”In a joint statement, AAP Punjab convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur and spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira alleged that the Commission was set up by the Badal government to save the culprits.Chhotepur said, “If the Commission wanted to submit a fact-based report, the investigation should have started from state Home Minister Sukhbir, the commanding authority of the police.”Khaira said Justice Markandey Katju had taken just three days time to investigate the matter and submitted a far better report.
