Two days after Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa put the Congress party in a tight spot by slapping a fellow party colleague in public, he sought an apology from IS Gulati, president of the Pathankot District Sewa Dal, a Congress frontal organisation. The incident took place just before PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh was to address farmers at a gathering in Dinanagar. This act of Randhawa had caused a massive upheaval in party circles with dissident leaders Bir Davinder Singh and Jagmeet Brar urging the PPCC chief to take action against the MLA who is considered close to Captain.Randhawa is also vice-president of the PPCC. Earlier, he was the president of the Gurdaspur District Congress Committee before he relinquished the charge last month.Apparently “under pressure” from Amarinder, two sitting MLAs Tripit Rajinder Singh Bajwa (Fatehgarh Churian) and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria (Raja Sansi) brokered truce at party general secretary Raman Bahl’s residence today.Earlier, these legislators had visited the residence of Gulati at Pathankot yesterday.Punjab Sewa Dal President Rajinder Das Rania too was present today.A new kind of bonhomie was witnessed when peace was being brokered. Gulati proclaimed that Randhawa had sought an apology from him and he had accepted it.“Randhawa asked me for forgiveness. Since it was a party matter I was left with no option except to forgive him. All is well that ends well,” Gulati said.
