Congress leader and three-time MLA Sher Singh Gagowal died today at a private hospital in Mohali. He was 85.He was elected sarpanch of his village, Gagowal, in Mansa district at the age of 18. He won the Mansa seat on the Congress ticket in the 1992 and 2007 Assembly elections. In the 2002 poll, he contested and won as an Independent after the Congress did not give him the ticket. During the tenure of Darbara Singh’s government, Gagowal served as the Mansa Market Committee chairman for five years.In the 2012 Assembly elections, his daughter-in-law, Gurpreet Kaur Dhaliwal, contested from the Mansa seat on the Congress ticket but lost. His son, Jagsir Singh Gagowal, who served as the District Congress Committee president, died of a heart attack in 2014.
