A PERTH child psychiatrists arrested in Canada on child pornography charges has been granted bail — on strict conditions — but can return to WA. Dr Aaron Voon, 41, was arrested after the May 22 incident at a shopping centre in Edmonton.

He allegedly used a mobile phone to video a boy at a urinal in a public toilet and has been charged with possession of child pornography, making child pornography and voyeurism.

Footage of Dr Voon, who works at the Successful Development and Therapy Centre in Cockburn Central, being confronted by the boy’s father and others at the shopping centre emerged on social media.

He was released on $80,000 bail overnight on the condition that he live at his Perth southern suburbs address; have no unsupervised contact with any person under 18 and not attend a public swimming pool.

Administrators at Dr Voon’s practice sent an email to his client on his behalf, which read: “A most terrible thing has happened with me in the past week while overseas which I will need to manage urgently … I will have to cease practice immediately indefinitely.”

“For patients and family I am so sorry for leaving you so suddenly. I can honestly state that these issues have been TOTALLY separate from work and I have always provided you and your children with the best possible, safe and appropriate care.”

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists released a statement on Tuesday, saying it was “deeply concerned” by the allegations and in touch with Canadian and Australian authorities to obtain all relevant information.

The priority was to ensure patients and their families affected by the immediate closure of the practice were supported, the statement read.
