A young boy has been air-lifted to hospital after a crash involving two school buses at Albion Park, south-west of Wollongong. The crash took pace at about 3:40pm on Tuesday.

Police said the buses were carrying about 40 students from a local private school later identified as Illawarra Christian School.

A number of students of varying ages were treated by paramedics at the scene and the boy was flown by air ambulance to hospital.

Five more children were taken to hospital with bruises and broken bones.

A spokeswoman from Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick said they had two children as patients, aged 7 and 10.

At about 9:00pm Tuesday, the 7-year-old was in a stable condition and the 10-year-old was in a serious but stable condition.
