Snatched Mercedes car recovered, it was found abandoned in Sector 38
IT SEEMS that snatchers have changed their strategy. Earlier, they used bikes to snatch away chains and other valuables of their targets; now some youths have started carrying out snatchings on foot. One such incident was reported from Shastri market in Sector 22 on Sunday evening when a pedestrian snatched away Rs-500 note from a girl.
The girl chased the snatcher but could not catch him. Later, the victim, a resident of Mohali, lodged a complaint. The police initiated an investigation after registering a case at Sector 22 police post.
The complainant, identified as Swati, a resident of Phase V, Mohali, told the police that she had came to Sector 22 and when she was near SCF 12 at the Shastri market, she took out a note of Rs 500 from her purse. Then she noticed a man, who looked like a beggar, come near her. He pushed her aside, snatched the note from her and ran away.
Swati told the police that she chased the snatcher up to the dividing road of Sector 33/34 but he managed to escape. In a major success, the police recovered the Mercedes car which was snatched away from a couple from the parking lot of Sector 15 on the evening of September 2. The car was recovered from Sector 38.
The police also recovered a fake number plate installed on the car. The police officials said that the vehicle seemed to be abandoned and it was parked near a house in Sector 38.The owner of the house informed the police about an abandoned car parked near his house, following which a police team took the vehicle into its custody. The police officials said that when they recovered the car, it bore a Fazilka registration number. The police informed the car owner who identified the vehicle. The police are now probing whether the snatchers have committed any crime by using this car.
A Mercedes (C class) car was snatched away when a woman, Parampreet Kaur, was sitting in it. Kaur told the police that she went to the market with her husband and son. When her husband and son went to buy milk from a nearby Verka booth, two youths came, pushed Kaur out and drove away the vehicle.
