Vani Kapoor’s absence through injury presents an opportunity for the rest of the field to make up ground on the runaway Order of Merit leader when Leg 10 of the Hero Women’s Pro Golf Tour begins at the KGA course here on Wednesday.Vani had completed a hat-trick of wins last month, having left the competition trailing in her wake in all three events. Her withdrawal on medical grounds, however, has given Neha Tripathi, who sits second on the money list, a clear chance to take top spot. The Kolkata golfer, who finished 17 shots adrift of Vani at Clover Greens in the previous event, will be aware she has not been in the best of form.In her quest for a third title on the Tour, Tripathi will have to contend with the likes of Sharmila Nicollet, Amandeep Drall and Gursimar Badwal. Gauri Monga, who finished runner-up in Leg 9, will look for a maiden win.Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma and Pune’s Shweta Galande are also in the fray while Kolkata’s Siddhi Kapoor will be making her professional debut here.Fifteen professionals and three amateurs will tee off, with total prize money of Rs.6 lakh on offer. — Special Correspondent
