In the last one week, there have been about nine attempts of burning the schools. The J&K government Tuesday told the High Court that it was not possible for it to provide security to each and every school in the Valley, but added that a “comprehensive plan” had been put in place to secure school buildings.
“There are 15,000 schools in the Valley and we have categorised each in three categories as hypersensitive, sensitive and normal. Most of the schools are located in densely populated areas, where in it is humanly not possible for us to deploy the static guard,” Additional Advocate General Bashir Ahmad Dar told the court. While seeking a “comprehensive and consolidated compliance report”, the HC had last month asked for personal appearance of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir and Director School Education, Kashmir before the court.
IGP Kashmir Syed Mujtaba Geelani said the police has not been able to “establish connect between the” school burnings.
“In the last one week, there have been about nine attempts of burning the schools… About 20 people stand arrested and in every case we have constituted special investigation teams,” he added.
