THE deep clang of kettle drums and a salty Sydney Harbour breeze signalled the start of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia Day 5 as Camilla unveiled its Resort 2017 collection.
An extra early start to the day proved well worth it as buyers and media boarded chic new party boat Seadeck for coffee, Pommery Champagne and an African-inspired spectacle as they cruised Sydney Harbour.
Not one to do things by halves, founder and designer Camilla Franks turned the vessel into a jungle fantasy land, with luscious foliage providing a suitable backdrop for her vibrant tribal men’s, women’s and children’s Jambo Jambo collection, inspired by her recent trip to Morocco and remote parts of Africa.
Renee Ayris, Jules Sebastian, Nikki Phillips, Magdalena Roze and Sophie Falkiner were just some of the colourfully-clad guests in attendance, many of them long time friends and fans of the label.
Franks’ signature kaleidoscopic prints found themselves on swimwear, jumpsuits, kaftans and even surfboards, with cool blues, bright fuschias and vivid shades of orange and red the colours which dominated the resort range.
While select fashion elite may not place Franks in the same talent pool as the Dion Lees and Ellerys of Australian fashion, even the most icy fashion critic would have struggled to stay aloof at this energetic, passionate and fun presentation.
