Two sisters riding pillion on a motorcycle were crushed to death by a speeding bus belonging to a private transport company on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur national highway near Jagraon today.
Their cousin brother, who was driving the motorcycle, escaped with minor injuries.The deceased — Suneha (12) and Srishti (6) — were residents of Jawaddi village near Ludhiana. Their cousin has been identified as Karan, a resident of Ferozepur. Karan is undergoing treatment at the local Civil Hospital.Sources said the accident took place near an eatery and the speeding bus hit the motorcycle from the rear resulting in the death of both the girls.After the accident, the bus driver fled from the spot. People gathered at the spot and vandalised the bus Relatives of the victims placed the bodies on the road and blocked traffic, demanding the arrest of the driver. The protesters raised slogans against the police and state government. Jagraon SDM Kulpreet Singh asked them to lift the dharna, but in vain.The police registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against bus driver Balwinder Singh, following which the agitators dispersed.SHO Jaswinder Singh said the driver was booked on the statement of Paramjit Kaur, mother of the deceased girls, and efforts to nab him were underway.
