After Britain voted to leave the European Union, similar sentiments were felt closer home in DelhiAs the world witnessed a historic mandate under a European Union referendum with United Kingdom (UK) voting to opt out of it, similar feelings have begun to surface closer home.
After the EU referendum results were declared, former journalist and AAP leader Ashish Khetan took to Twitter and said: “After the UK referendum on EU exit, it’s time to have a referendum on full statehood of Delhi. In a democracy the will of the people is supreme.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, taking a lead from it, also tweeted lending his voice to the demand. The AAP has been demanding full statehood status for Delhi since long and it has locked horns with the Centre and Lt Governor in the past for the same.
