A teenage boy is recovering from serious stab wounds after a brawl with suspected shoe thieves erupted at a house party in Ajax over the weekend. The bloodshed unfolded at a home on Dolby Cr., southeast of Taunton Rd. W. and Salem Rd. N., shortly after 12 a.m. Sunday, Durham Regional Police said Tuesday.

“The 17-year-old victim and other party-goers confronted a group of males who were suspected of stealing shoes at the party,” Sgt. Bill Calder said. “A large fight ensued outside the residence, involving many people.”

“As the suspects fled in a light-coloured vehicle, similar to a Volvo station wagon, the victim realized he had been stabbed numerous times.”

The stabbed teen was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a Toronto-area trauma centre, Calder said.

The boy’s injuries, while serious, are not believed to be life-threatening.

Investigators are now appealing for witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to come forward.

Police are looking for an assailant described as a black male, with a light complexion, who was wearing a beige coat.
